Charles Curtis

Charles Francis Â?CharlieÂ? Curtis, 77, of 626 York Place, Danville, VA died on January 23, 2010 in Danville Regional Medical Center after being in declining health for the past several years and hospitalized for the last four days. Mr. Curtis was born in Culpeper, VA on March 22, 1932 a son of the late Cary Randolph Curtis and Helen Shacklelford Curtis. He had lived most of his life in Danville where had owned & operated C.F. Curtis & Sons Masonry Inc. where he had worked until his retirement due to health reasons. Charlie was a member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church where he had served as a trustee and he was an avid hunter and he dearly loved his family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, all of his hunting buddies and his faith full companion Billy. On June 20, 1951 he married Janie Carmichael Curtis who survives of the residence. Charlie is also survived by three sons Randolph Â?RandyÂ? Curtis and wife Patricia, Charles W. Â?ChuckÂ? Curtis and wife Regina, David Ray Curtis and wife Pam all of Danville, Va, two daughters Fran Curtis Johnson and husband Gray of Kernersville, NC and Ann Curtis Scearce and husband Donnie of Danville, VA, three brothers Robert Curtis of Danville, VA, J.B. Rutledge and Dennis Rutledge both of Miramar, FL, one sister Margaret C. Hite of Danville, VA, 12 Grandchildren Kristy Lee Curtis, Ken David Curtis, Kellee Curtis Davis, Jonathan Henry Scearce, Jennifer Scearce Barber, Kimberly Scearce Smith, Ronnie William Curtis, Theresa Curtis Scearce, Natalie Jewel Curtis, Mandi Curtis Merricks, Rebecca Curtis Gibson, and Jamie Ray Curtis, eight great grandchildren Will Scearce, Haylee Barber, Alli Barber, Logan Smith, Emilie Merricks, Holden Merricks, Maggie Davis and Carter Curtis. He was predeceased by his parents, one brother Cary Â?BuddyÂ? Curtis, one sister Charlotte Curtis Rowland, one granddaughter Emilie Anne Curtis and two great grandchildren Parker Lewis Smith and Peyton David Gibson. Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday, January 25, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from Third Avenue Congregational Church by the Reverend Frederick J. Vicks. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and at other they will be at the residence 626 York Place in Surrey Hills. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to one of the following charities, the Danville Life Saving Crew at 202 Christopher Lane Danville, VA, Third Avenue Building Fund at 215 Third Ave, Danville, VA, Little Life Ministries or to the Crossroads Ministries at 625 Piney Forest Road Suite 108, Danville, VA.
