Robert Benny Church

Reverend Robert “Benny” Church, age 72 of 1601 Doctor Milams Road, Sutherlin, Va. died unexpectedly Monday, October 28, 2013 at his residence. Reverend Church was born on March 11, 1941 in Iredell County, N.C., a son of the late Robert Clay Church and the late Edra Padgett Church. He was a graduate of John Wesley College, Greensboro, N.C. He started his career as a minister in 1965. He served churches in Burlington, N.C., Stuart, Va., Julian, N.C. and Robbins, N.C. He was presently serving Hebron United Methodist Church in Caswell County, N.C. He also served as District Youth Director and Camp Director for fourteen years at Indian Cave Youth Camp in Sutherlin, Va. He was National Youth Director for four years. He was a founding member of Laurel Grove Volunteer Fire Department where he was a lifetime member and serving as Chaplain. He enjoyed hunting and cattle farming. On December 29, 1961, he married Faye Keller Church, who survives of the residence, He is also survived by a daughter, Diane Church Myers and husband, Joey of Brown Summit, N.C., a son, James Craig Church and wife, Jayne of Sutherlin, Va.; grandchildren, James Church, Rebecca Hudson and husband, Jonathan, Nathan Myers and Jacob Myers; four sisters, Sue Davidson and husband, Jesse, Judy Johnson, Peggy Krider and husband, Bill all of Statesville, N.C., Ruth Stewart and husband, Jerry of Oklahoma, a brother, Wade Church and wife, Joyce of Statesville, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Earline Church of Sutherlin, Va. He was predeceased by three brothers, Neil Church, Fred Church and Charles Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Lakewood Evangelical Methodist Church, 129 Clarks Mill Road, Ringgold, Va Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm. Thursday, October 31, 2013 at New Union United Methodist Church, 1869 Sheffield Road, Mocksville, N.C. with the Reverend Sandy Brown and the Reverend David Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at New Union United Methodist Church prior to the service from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 31, 2013.
