Barbara Mackey

Barbara Ann Smith Mackey, 82, of 205 Kent Lane, Danville, Virginia went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 9, 2018 at Stratford Rehabilitation Center after being in declining health for the past year. Barbara was born in Oneonta, New York on March 3, 1936, daughter of the late Clifford Smith and the late Catherine Rich Smith. Barbara was married to Robert Warren Mackey who died on Oct 3, 1988. She was a homemaker whose greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved celebrating special moments in their lives and always bragged to everyone she met about how amazing they were and how much she loved them. The walls of her bedroom were lined with photos as a constant reminder of her love and devotion. Barbara was a very active member of Mt. Olivet UMC, where she was a member of the choir and the United Methodist Women. She was active in Vacation Bible School, crafts and the nursery. Barbara loved gardening, crafting, and she especially loved cooking and baking for her family. Survivors include her daughters Betsy Kent and husband Stephen of Danville, Holly Stanfield and husband Kenneth of Alton, Virginia, and Pamela Butler and husband Francis of Baltimore, Maryland; sons, Ric Booth and wife Patti of Baltimore, Maryland, Robert Mackey and wife Barb of South New Berlin, New York, and David Booth of Wisconsin; step sons, Don Mackey and wife Carroll, and Jerry Mackey; step daughters, Cathy Pitt and Roberta Kennedy and husband Fred; brother, Richard Smith; sisters, Mary Higgins and Grace Simmons; 19 grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. A celebration of life service will be conducted on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Reverend Jim Stevens officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Betsy and Stephen Kent, 205 Kent Lane, Danville, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to either Mt. Olivet UMC Marion Fulton Scholarship Fund, 245 Mt Olivet Ln Danville, VA 24541; or to Stratford Rehabilitation Center at 508 Rison Street, Danville, Virginia.
