Bettie Jean Davis

Bettie Jean Davis, 78, formerly of Ringgold, VA took Jesus’ hand and walked, for the first time in many years, into heaven on Feb. 2, 2017 where she was greeted by her loving and devoted husband, David Daniel Davis, of whom had preceded her in death & had been waiting patiently to be reunited with the love of his life. She had been in declining health from Parkinson Disease for many years. She was born June 22, 1938 in Danville to the late Horace Temple Davis and Edna Lee Quinn Davis. She is survived by her daughters, Lee Ann Mahan & her husband David of Ringgold, and Carolyn Sue Clark & her husband Kevin of Forest, Va.; as well as four grandchildren, R. Adam Rainey and wife Nikki, Linda Rainey, Jessica Gray & husband Dylan, and Kasey Blazejewicz & husband Adrian; and two great-grandchildren, Alexander David Rainey & Dylan Grant Rainey; her three sisters, Judy Hall of Kenbridge, VA, Brenda Branch of Raeford, NC, Linda James of Sanford, NC and two sisters in-law, Carol Davis of Raeford, NC and Clara Davis of Danville, VA. She was preceded in death by her dearly loved brother, James (Jimmie) Thomas Davis of Raeford, NC (formerly of Danville) and many nieces and nephews. The two were married on November 25, 1955, after eloping at the young ages of 16 & 17. Although she spent most of her life in Danville, she did have fond memories of living in Aberdeen, NC in the1940’s and Clarksville in 1950’s. During the 1960’s, Mrs. Davis worked for several years at Dan River Mills. Later, she worked as a Special Education Assistant at Dan River Elementary School, Smith Douglass Fertilizer, and spent her later years as a homemaker. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved her church, Kentuck Baptist, and was very active there, where she served as WMU director for many years. She was also a volunteer at Dan River Elementary School, while her grandchildren were attending there, and assisted with teaching Art. She enjoyed being with her family, decorating her home, spoiling her grandkids, painting & drawing, teaching vacation bible school to the preschoolers, vacationing at Atlantic Beach, and anything that involved family! The family would like to thank all of her friends who faithfully visited her throughout the years. Her family is also grateful to the nurses and staff at Roman Eagle Health Care Center who lovingly cared for her. A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, February 5, at 2 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, 703 North Main Street, Danville, VA with the Reverend Allen Mahan officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence of Lee Ann & David Mahan, 2857 Rocksprings Road, Ringgold, VA. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider Kentuck Baptist Church, 1845 Kentuck Church Road, Ringgold, VA 24586.
