Brenda N. Livengood

Brenda Newby Livengood passed from this world on November 14, 2024 in the arms of her children in Roanoke, VA. Born April 5, 1948, Brenda is survived by her husband of 57 years, Lt. Colonel Delmer Hume Livengood (Ret.). Brenda was a proud military wife who spent her younger years traveling the world and raising her family on military bases all throughout the country. Brenda was the daughter of the late John and Margaret Newby. She had three sisters; the late Thelma Mae Newby and the late Barbara Easley; and is survived by Elizabeth Williams. Brenda is survived by two loving children, daughter Laynie Delay Harrison (Chad) and son Delmer Hume Livengood, Jr. (Melanie). She had three grandchildren: Joseph B. Harrison; Elijah B. Livengood; and Evan T. Livengood. Brenda grew up in the Elmo community of Halifax County, VA, the proud daughter of a tobacco producing family. She graduated high school from Halifax High School in June 1966. Brenda fell in love and was married to Delmer on April 4, 1967 in Halifax County. She graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Nursing Degree. Brenda was a Registered Nurse and a professional caregiver, retiring from Blue Ridge Nursing Home. Brenda was a terrific Mom, a doting and dependable grandmother and a loving wife. She loved animals, art, Pittsburgh Steelers football, breakfast buffets and doing anything she could with her grandchildren. She leaves behind a heartbroken special friend, her beloved dog Ruby. Brenda was a talented life-long local artist who painted scenes from her community and filled homes with beautiful images from her canvas. She was a terrific cook who entertained her extended family for years at Walnut Winds Farm, especially Thanksgiving Day. She was of Baptist faith, and a life-long member of Arbor Baptist Church in Halifax County. The family will receive friends and family from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, Westover Chapel on Monday, November 18, 2024. Her funeral and celebration of life service will follow the visitation at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel. Brenda will be buried at her final resting place, Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA at a later date. The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions be sent to Arbor Baptist Church, 15120 River Road, Sutherlin, VA 24594 in loving memory of Brenda. Out of an abundance of caution for the health of Mr. Livengood and others, the family has requested no visitors at the residence.
