Charles Nichols Briggs

Charles Nichols Briggs, 86, of Leasburg, NC, went to be with the Lord on January 10, 2024, at his home, after several years of declining health and a recent hospital stay. He was born in Person County on October 22, 1937, son of the late Willie Robert & Ola Brann Briggs. He was a graduate of the Bartlett Yancey High School, class of 1955. On June 27, 1958, he married Peggy Anne Cobb Briggs, who predeceased him in 2021. He spent his life in the Leasburg community of Caswell County where he was a rural letter carrier for the USPS for 30+ years. Prior to declining health, he was an active member of Old Lea Bethel Baptist Church. In his younger years, he was actively involved with the Leasburg Volunteer Fire Department. He was also involved with the local prison ministry for 30+ years, where he touched the lives of numerous men. After retirement, he occasionally helped with funeral services at Wrenn-Yeatts. He is survived by a daughter, Donna Briggs Anderson Grubbs of Leasburg, NC; a son, Nick Briggs, Jr. and wife, Tammy, of Goode, VA; six grandchildren, of whom he had nicknames: Joseph Grubbs, Jr., MD, a.k.a. “Joe-Fish” (Gabriela); Joshua Grubbs, PhD, a.k.a. “Googlack” (Kimberly); Mary-Hannah Grubbs, a.k.a. “Scooter”; Allison Briggs Hartnett, a.k.a. “Googlack 2”, (Bryan); Rebekah Briggs, J.D., a.k.a. “Clown”; Trey Briggs, a.k.a. “T-Boy (Julie). He had eight great-grandchildren: Peyton, Brantley, & Jaxon Grubbs; Vallie & Nico Grubbs; Adam, Ellis, & Zoe Hartnett. He is survived by two brothers: Larry Briggs (Rachel) and Rickie Briggs (Cathy) of Leasburg, NC; and two sisters: Kaye Briggs Rich (Rudy) of Asheboro, NC, and Faye Briggs of Virginia Beach, VA. He was predeceased by two sisters: Loretta Briggs Roberson and Jenny Briggs Clark; one brother: William Briggs Jr.; sons-in-laws: Joe Grubbs and Joey Anderson; and also by his loving companion, faithful church attendee, and trusted adventurer: Mackenzie Briggs - his favorite pet! A special thanks is heartily extended to our phenomenal caretakers: Ilene Clark and Deonca Emanuel Locklear. Words cannot convey our gratitude for what you provided to both our parents. Your excellent care improved their lives, and we will forever be appreciative of the extra time with our parents. A funeral service for Mr. Charles Briggs will be conducted on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., at Beulah Baptist Church, by the Reverend Richard Rorrer. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 pm. At other times, the family will be at the home located at 1979 NC-119, Leasburg, N.C. In lieu of flowers: take your money, go to Hardee’s, and enjoy a sausage & gravy biscuit in honor of Daddy.
