Dana Dixon

Dana Gene Dixon, of Providence, NC passed away at home with family and friends near after his battle with (ALS) Lou Gehrig's disease. Dana was born in Madisonville Kentucky on March 20, 1958 a son of the late Billy Gene Dixon and Remona Josey Dixon who survives. Dana had worked for over 30 years for Goodyear starting at the Madisonville, KY plant and transferring to Goodyear Danville in 1985 where he had retired on disability pension. During his career with Goodyear Dana both worked with Goodyear plant and the USW local in the area of communications. He served for several years as editor of the Informer for Local 831. For Dana's communication talent and skill he was awarded the highest honor the United Steelworkers has, "The Howard J. McCartney" award. He was later elected to serve his Union as Financial Secretary until his retirement. Dana also served on the URW Federal Credit Union Board of Directors. Dana was a member of Glen Hill Baptist Church and renewed his life with Christ. Dana was married to his wife Karen Hust Dixon who survives of the residence for over 25 years. He is also survived by his mother and 4 sons Colby Griffin and wife Michelle of Simpsonville, SC, Bryce Dixon of Newburgh, Indiana, Jeremy Griffin of Philadelphia, PA and Jarrod Dixon of the residence, one brother Jeff and wife Sherry of Danville, one sister Lydia Long and husband Rick of Hanson, Kentucky, and 2 grandchildren Chandler and Chloe Griffin. Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Lively Stones Baptist Church by the Reverend Steven Wright. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel on Wednesday night from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and will at other times be at the residence. The family wishes to thank Wanda Ferguson, Kecia Gaston and Patricia Hamlett for all their love and comfort show to Dana and his family. The Family request that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Hospice of Alamance Caswell County, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC.
