David Davis

David Daniel Davis, 73, of 2857 Rock Springs Road, Ringgold, VA died Friday, October 26, 2012 at his residence after a decline in his health for the last few months. He had been a pancreatic cancer survivor for the past 21 years. Mr. Davis was born in Danville, VA on February 3, 1939 a son of the late Hutch Lee Davis and the late Mary Clay Wells Davis. He lived most of his life in the Danville area and Ringgold, VA. He retired, after 33 years, from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company where he had worked as an area manager. He also loved doing masonry work in Danville and Pittsylvania County. Mr. Davis was a loving husband, father, and Papa that lived by example for his children and grandchildren. At the age of thirty he went back to school as an adult and received his high school diploma as well as a standing ovation from his peers. He was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church and Kent Masonic Lodge #305 A.F & A.M. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them fishing, camping, golfing and going to the beach. On November 25, 1955 he married Bettie Jean Davis, his wife of 57 years, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lee Ann ?Doodle Bug? Mahan, and husband David, of Ringgold, VA, and Carolyn ?Peanut? Clark, and husband Kevin, of Forest, VA; four grandchildren, Adam ?Bo? Rainey, and wife Nikki, Linda Gail ?Doll Baby? Rainey, Jessica ?Precious? Clark and Kasey ?Boo? Clark; a great-grandson, Alexander David Rainey; five sisters-in-law that he affectionately called his number 1 sisters-in-law, Judy Hall, Brenda Branch, Linda James, Clara Davis and Carol Davis. He will also be greatly missed by his beloved cockerspaniel, Isaac. He was predeceased by two brothers, Larry Davis and Carson Davis and a sister-in-law, Virginia Davis. The family wishes to thank Dr. Theodore Pappas and Dr. Bryan Clary and staff at Duke Medical Center for their excellent care given to them for the past 21 years. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from Kentuck Baptist Church with the Reverend Bruce Miller officiating. Interment will follow the service in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends Monday afternoon at the church from 12:30 ? 2:00 p.m. and at other times they will be at his residence. Also, they suggests memorials may be made to Kentuck Baptist Church, 1845 Kentuck Church Road, Ringgold, VA, 24586. Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is serving the Davis family.
