David Hackney

David Addison Hackney, 64, of 231 Inca Lane, Ringgold VA went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the VA Hospital in Durham, NC after being in declining health for several weeks. Mr. Hackney was born on October 26, 1946 in the Clover Community of Halifax County, VA a son of the late Ollie Addison Hackney and the late Leaone Watts Hackney. He spent most of his life in the Halifax and Pittsylvania County areas where he farmed for 15 years and had worked as an over the road truck driver for over 35 years until his retirement. He was a graduate of Halifax County High School, Class of 1964 and he served his country in the US Army and fought in Vietnam. He was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church. On June 28, 1985 he married Vickie Bledsoe Hackney, who survives of the residence. In addition to his wife Mr. Hackney is survived by three children, Brian A. Hackney and his wife Angie, of Lynchburg, VA, Dana H. Harris and her husband Stephen, of Semora, NC and Johnnie H. Wilmoth and her husband Steven of Ringgold, VA; one brother, Mark A. Hackney and his wife Joan of Scottsburg, VA; and nine grandchildren, Barrett Moses, Cole Hackney, Cole Underwood, Sydney Underwood, Claire Harris, Lexie Wilmoth, Lillie Murray, Conner Murray, and Olivia Wilmoth. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hackney was predeceased by one son, Richard Allen Hackney. Funeral service will be conducted on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Reverend William Balock and Reverend Mitch Cifers officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and American Legion, Dan River Post 1097 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service and at other times they will be at the residence, 231 Inca Lane, Ringgold, VA 24586. The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the Virginia Baptist Children?s Home, P.O. Box 89, Salem, VA 24153-0849.
