David Powell

David Lynn Powell Sr., 47, of 107 Danmar Circle, Cascade, VA died on March 31, 2009 in Duke Medical Center after being in declining health for the past six months. David was born in Danville on May 26, 1961 a son of David Lee Powell and Gloria Arnold Shelton. He was a graduate of Tunstall High School Class of 1979 and he attended Danville Community College for Auto Body & Paint. David had worked for the former Dan River Inc. in the Dye House before working for Advance Auto as store manager in Altavista and the Danville store on Piney Forest Road. He had worked for Riverside Towing as a Tow Truck operator and office manager until his retirement due to health reasons. David was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church. He was a faithful volunteer for the Danville Humane Society where he worked with Adoption of dogs and cats through Pet Smart and he was very faithful member of the Do-Drop-In Coffee Club. On August 24, 2002 David married Lynn Haywood Powell who survives of the residence. He is also survived by one son David L. Powell Jr. of Danville, one step daughter Amanda S. Foster of the residence, his father David Lee Powell & step mother Lugene of Roxboro, NC, his mother Gloria A. Shelton & step father Phil of BlairÂ?s, VA, one brother Mark Anthony Powell of Philadelphia, PA, one half brother Danny Powell of Timberlake, NC, three step sisters Darlene Foster, Tammy Elliott both of Virgilina, VA & Anjanette Shelton of Lynchburg, VA, two step brothers Aaron Hardy of Raleigh, NC & Phil Shelton of Martinsville, VA, and a maternal grandmother Helene G. Arnold. Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, April 3, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Brian Edwards & Rev. Terry Schultz. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and at other times they will be at the residence, 107 Danmar Circle off of Whispering Pines Road. The family request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Danville Humane Society, P.O. Box 3352 Danville, Virginia 24543.
