Dorothy Beggarly Harraway

Dorothy Beggarly Harraway, age 80, of 529 Blairs Circle, Blairs, VA, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Danville Regional Medical Center after declining in health for the past two years. Mrs. Harraway was born on January 4, 1936, in Pittsylvania County, VA, a daughter of the late Homer James Beggarly and Mary Ellen Boaz Beggarly. On September 2, 1955, she married Bertie Robertson Harraway who survives. She lived most of her life in Blairs, VA where she was the manager at Cordan Federal Credit Union. She was a member of Blairs Baptist Church and dedicatedly served as the church treasurer. Mrs. Harraway was a member of an Investment Club, a past member of the Blairs Volunteer Fire Department women’s auxiliary, and served as past president of the Danville Charter Chapter ABWA. In her church, she served as a choir member, Sunday school teacher, taught a class on missions, and a youth instructor in Awana and Children’s Church. She was also very active in WCTU and WMU. Mrs. Harraway loved God, her church and her church family. She had 60 years of love and devotion to her husband, Bertie. Most of all, she loved her grandson, Dylan Harraway and her family more than anything else in her life. She was also known for being a very classy person. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Robert Edward Harraway of NC; a daughter, Wanda Harraway-Chattin and husband Jay Robert Chattin of Cleveland, OH; a special daughter, Sandy M. Mueller of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter-in-law and special friend, Ann Pflugshaupt and husband Dwight G. Rudd; three grandchildren, Dylan Leo Harraway, Melissa Gayle Chattin Flippen and husband Scott, and Jason Andrew Chattin; two great grandchildren, Heather Flippen Daniel and husband Kyle, and Blake Flippen all of Danville, VA; two sisters, Lois B. Yeaman and husband Jesse and Patricia B. Blalock and fiancé Bruce Shelton of Danville, VA; a sister-in-law, Joyce Beggarly Morrisette of TN and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Holley Nicole Chattin; a sister, Barbara Ann Beggarly; two brothers, James Thomas Beggarly and Herman Oakes Beggarly; mother-in-law, Cornelia Franklin Harraway and Bertie Russell Harraway; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Frances Harraway McCusker and Dorothy Harraway Bennett. Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Blairs Baptist Church with the Reverend John Lester and the Reverend Pat Bennett Tony officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday night from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence. Interment will follow the service in Highland Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Blairs Baptist Church and Blairs Volunteer Fire Department. Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is respectfully serving the Harraway family.
