Edith Davis

Edith Luvenia Pruitt Davis, a lifelong resident and beloved legend of Caswell County, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, of Blanch, North Carolina, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and was reunited with her love, her husband, Whit on April 26, 2026. Born on October 9, 1938 in Catawba County, NC, she was the cherished daughter of Joe Pruitt and Sallie Barker Pruitt. Edith was a woman of unwavering faith and she led a life that was rich in love and devotion to her family. She was a lifelong member of the Baptist tradition. Edith was a woman whose life was defined by quiet strength, tireless service and a heart that knew no bounds when it came to family. On September 21, 1957, Edith married the love of her life, Whitfield Davis. They shared 61 blessed years of marriage until his passing on September 24, 2018 which was three days after their anniversary. She is surely walking hand-in-hand with Whit again. Edith was also preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Sallie B. Pruitt, her baby sister Frances Pruitt, her brother Harold Pruitt, son-in-law, Thomas Bray, her sister, Jane Soloman and her brother-in-law Tom Soloman and the family dog, Jack. Two nephews also left this world before her. Edith leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by two daughters, Vicki Bray of Mebane, NC, and Rose D. McDaniel and husband Lawrence of Blanch, NC and her son, Timothy Whit Davis and wife Aylica of Blanch, NC. Edith’s legacy will continue through her five grandchildren, Frank Pulliam, Roxanne Pulliam, Christie Harp, Timothy “Lil Tim” Bray, and Joseph “Joe” Davis. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Pulliam, Brooklyn Wentzel and Jayden Bray. Edith’s family was her greatest treasure and she cherished her relationships with her sisters. She is survived by two sisters, Dean P. Massey of Martinsville, VA and Elizabeth “Bibbi” Fuquay and her husband, Junior of West Yanceyville, NC and a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews who loved her dearly. She had a special bond with her niece Peggy Carter whom she loved like her own child as well as her husband, Mike. She also loved her great niece, Sheena Carter, as if she were her own grandchild. She also served as a grandmother to many more individuals who were not related by blood but were lucky enough to be loved by her. She also leaves behind, the family dog, Junior and her granddaughter’s dog Opie. Edith enjoyed the simple joys of life, from working on puzzles books to watching her favorite games shows and watching her favorite stories, Lifetime and Hallmark movies, TV shows: In the Heat of the Night and Walker Texas Ranger. She was a passionate Dallas cowboys fan and she could often be found cheering on her team. A fixture in the community, Edith was known for her signature jogging outfits and her perfectly broken-in black Reeboks. She was well known, among her family and friends, for her delicious chocolate pies, fried apple pies, banana pudding and unforgettable family meals during the holidays such as Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Edith had a deep love of country music, especially the tunes of George Jones and Matt Boswell. She treasured every chance to hear Matt play at local events. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the nurses, social workers and chaplain from AuthoraCare Collective (Hospice) for their compassionate care as well as her In-Home Aide Mellanie Smedberg, who was there in the last moments of her life. A Memorial Service will be held at Ekklesia Baptist Church, 4540 Blanch Road, Blanch, NC 27212 at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 1, 2026 with Pastor Mark Cobb officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:00 prior to the service. At other times, the family gathering will take place at the residence, 216 Quail Meadows Road, Blanch, NC. Edith will forever be remembered for her unwavering love, her kindness, and her infectious spirit. All who knew her, loved her dearly, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. The following sentiment says it all; A mother’s love is the heart of a family—her warmth remains long after her hands are still. Her memory will be forever left in our hearts until we all see her again. We will love her always and forever. Weep not for me for I am home.
