Edith Lane Vicks

Edith Lane Vicks, 95, of Danville, VA went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Sovah Health in Danville. She had been a resident at Roman Eagle Health and Rehab. Edith was born in Danville, VA on April 20, 1929, a daughter of the late Arthur Robert Lane, Sr. and Hester Williams Lane. She spent all of her life in the Danville area where she was a homemaker. She was a member of the former Third Avenue Christian Church where she was a member of the Chapel Bible Class. Edith was known by her family and many others as the “Hostess with the mostest!”. Edith adored cultivating flowers and had a deep affection for life, especially for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even her great-great-grandchild. She was renowned for her clever remarks, such as "Save your nickels and dimes and come see me sometimes." She had a heart of gold and will be missed by many. On April 20, 1946 she married William James Vicks who died on June 28, 2003. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her siblings, Arthur Robert Lane, Jr., Albert Edward Lane, James Edward Lane, Evelyn L. Arthur, Irene L. Salutorz, and Freda L. Forward. Survivors include, her sons, Larry W. Vicks and his wife, Marion of Lynchburg, VA and Rev. Frederick J. Vicks and his wife, Phyllis of Danville, VA; her daughter, Wanda V. Haynes and her husband, Steve of Danville, VA; her grandchildren, Angela Vicks High, Woodrow Steven Haynes, II (Erin), Frederick James Vicks, II (Bobbi), Kevin Pollard Vicks (Stacy), David Berkley Vicks (Heather), and Andrew Overton Vicks(Katie); fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Reverend Raymond Lawton officiating. Interment will follow the service in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM at the funeral home and at other times will be at the residence of her daughter, Wanda and Steve Haynes, 817 Westview Drive, Danville, VA 24540. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff at Roman Eagle Health and Rehab for all their love and care given to Edith.
