Elizabeth Barbour Williams

Elizabeth Barbour Williams departed this life for her Heavenly home on Wednesday October 18, 2023. The last survivor of her generation, she was born on September 16, 1924 and was the youngest of 16 children born to the late James Millard Barbour and Gertrude Hines Barbour. Elizabeth graduated from Brosville High School and was proud to be the first one in her family to accomplish that. On October 23, 1945, Elizabeth married Jesse Neal Williams, who predeceased her in 2010. They spent their entire married life in the Westover Hills Community of Danville. Elizabeth was born and raised in the Sandy River Community of Pittsylvania County. She worked at the Schoolfield Division of Dan River Mills for 45 years in #5 Finishing Inspection and later Production Control. Elizabeth was a charter member of Westover Hills United Methodist Church and served as Treasurer for many years. She was also a UMYF Leader, Sunday School Teacher and member of United Methodist Women and Hermitage Guild. When Westover Hills closed, she moved her membership to Trinity United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Conerly Sunday School Class and the Trinity Circle. Elizabeth lived a long, full and independent life. She was an avid crafter and seamstress, who, for many years, owned and operated E&J Ceramics and would later be found every Saturday at the Community Market with her craft items. She was affectionately known as the Crochet Scrubber lady to many. She loved flowers and enjoyed camping each year in Florida and at Rocky Knob on the Blue Ridge Parkway, where she met many lifelong friends. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Judith W. Giles; a grandson, Daniel E. Giles, and wife, April; and three precious great-granddaughters, Taylor, Allison and Deanna Giles. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Riverside Health and Rehab Center, West Wing nurses and staff.
