Frances Branscome Clayton

On November 12, 2009, Frances Vaughan Branscome Clayton finally saw her savior. On many days during her illness she lifted her hands to heaven and said, Â?God take meÂ?. He did in his time. She always loved singing hymns and even tried until shortly before she left this world. She was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1922 in Thomasville, N.C., a daughter of the late Augusta Vaughan and the late Eva Vaughan. She worked at the Danville Memorial Hospital for thirty five years as a secretary and the first supervisor of patient escort services. She retired due to disability. She resided on Moorefield Bridge Road after moving to Danville from Providence, N.C. She resided the past year in the Altzheimers unit at Loyalton of Danville before being hospitalized two weeks ago. She was moved to Riverside Health Care Center one week ago for comfort care. She was a member of Gatewood Baptist Church in Providence where she sang in the choir and attended Sunday School and active in missions. She loved her church. Upon moving to Danville she attended church with her daughter at Vandola Baptist. She loved going to church and went as long as she was able. She could not talk plain but she could clearly say, Church and God. She will be missed but she is where she wanted to be as altzheimers had taken so much but she remembered her God. She was predeceased by her first husband, Marshall Branscome, who died in 1974, she later married William H. Clayton, who died on July 28, 2001. Mrs. Clayton is survived by two daughters, Linda B. King and husband, Charlie King of Danville, Ann B. Mays and husband, Butch Mays of Chatham, two sons, Robert Gerald Branscome and wife, Jane Branscome of Chapel Hill, N.C., Marshall Wayne Branscome of Williamsburg, one brother, Dewey Vaughan and wife, Ann Vaughan of Winter Springs, Fla., eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one sister, Peggy Fields, two brothers, Bud Vaughan, Charles Vaughan, two step sons, William Clayton, Jr. and John Clayton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm., Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, Westover Chapel by Rev. John Gentry. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, Westover Chapel, Saturday evening, November 14, 2009 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. At other times the family will be at the residence of her daughter, Linda B. King and son-in-law, Charlie King, 2201 Moorefield Bridge Road. The family would like to express our appreciation for the wonderful caregivers at Loyalton in the memory care unit as she loved each one.
