Glen G. Dodson

Glen Gene Dodson, 87, of 61 Dodson Drive, Yanceyville, NC passed away at his residence on Thursday, March 5, 2015 after several months of declining health. Mr. Dodson was born on September 24, 1927 in the Spring Garden Community of Pittsylvania County, VA a son to the late Roy Wister Dodson and Myrtie Owen Dodson. He had lived most of his life in the Semora and Yanceyville areas of Caswell County where he raised Tobacco. Farming was his passion and he enjoyed getting up at the crack of dawn and going down to the farm and getting on his tractor for the day and returning home late in the evenings from the fields. Mr. Dodson also worked for the NC Department of Transportation where he had retired after 19 years of service. On December 14, 1946 he married Mary Mandy Barker who survives of the residence. Mr. Dodson is also survived by two daughters Jean Dodson Gibson (Paul) and Carolyn Dodson Thomas, one son Michael Glen Dodson all of Yanceyville, NC, Goddaughter Phyliss Hamlet Gibson of Blanch, NC, one sister Mary Ola Marshall of Maryland, two grandchildren John Gibson (Kristi), Teresa G. Crumpton (Benny), 4 great grandchildren, Trevor & Amanda Denny, Kayla & Brianna Gibson, special family Jennifer, Daniel, Taylor & Bradley Toth of Newport News, VA., 2 step grandchildren & 5 step great grandchildren, special companions Junk Yard, Freckles & Cocoa. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Buster, Mitchell, Alexander, Newman Vernon and Roger Dodson, sisters Pattie D. Clark, Nelsie D. Taylor, Cecile D. Blair, Billie D. Myers and a son in law Robert Thomas. Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from Welcome Baptist Church in Blanch, NC by the Rev. James Albert. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and other times they will be at the residence 61 Dodson Drive, Yanceyville, NC 27379. The family suggest that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to Hospice of Alamance Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
