Judith Samuels

Judy Samuels left this world for her heavenly home on September 27, 2008 She was born Judith Caroline Fisher to the late Thomas 'Tom' Roosevelt Fisher and Catherine 'Kitty' Gray Fisher on September 16, 1934. She grew up in the Glenwood community and attended Glenwood Elementary School She married her sweetheart, Thomas Hunt on August 2, 1949 and traveled with him as a navy wife to Jacksonville, Florida and Portsmouth, Virginia. They were blessed with 2 daughters, Karen and Teresa. After leaving the Navy, they moved back to Danville, where unfortunately Thomas left this world on May 21, 1961. But the Lord sent Judy a second good husband, Garland Lee 'Sam' Samuels, and they were married on December 23, 1965. They returned to the Glenwood community to make their home and were blessed with a daughter Lee and a son Tommy. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and later attended Victory Baptist and Temple Baptist. Judy worked over 20 years in the weave room at Dan River Mills and then left to open Tom and Judy's Cafe next to her home in Glenwood, The cafe was known for plenty of good food and conversation and neighbors would sit for hours drinking coffee and talking. The cafe closed after a number of years so that Judy could devote all her time to taking care of her father and husband who were both in bad health. She also welcomed into her home her in-'laws, Frank and Betty Samuels from South Boston and cared for them after Betty suffered a stroke. After Sam passed into heaven on October 11, 1991, Judy did what she loved most. She went to work at Roman Eagle Nursing Home as a unit helper so she could take care of those who could not take care of their selves. She leaves behind her daughters, Teresa Barber and husband Randy, and Lee Samuels-Horne, all of Ringgold, and son Tommy Samuels of Sutherlin. Nine grandchildren, Angela B. Turner and husband Jason, Amanda A. Pullon and husband Joe, Taylor Ann-Marie Samuels, Amber Horne all of Sutherlin. Brandon Barber and wife Tonya of Altavista, Jonathan and Lauren Barber, Shannon and Carla Agee, all of Ringgold. Six great grandchildren include Aaron, Andrew and Alyson Turner and Joey, Brianna, and Bryson Pullon all of Sutherlin and a special family friend, Juanita Hunt. She was greeted in heaven by her daughter Karen Agee and her husband, C.T., an infant granddaughter Ann Caroline Agee along with son-in-law Larry Horne. Everyone knew Judy as a loving person who put others first, someone who loved to fish, loved the beach, car racing and of course loved Elvis Presley. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverside Healthcare, Roman Eagle Nursing Home, Dr Shah, Dr. Falgui and Dr Alabanza for the excellent care they provided the last 2 years. Donations should be made to the Danville Humane Society or the Alzheimer Association. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. from the Wrenn-Yeatts, North Main Chapel by the Reverend Roy Newton. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday from 7:00-8:30 P.M. at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her daughter Teresa Barber at 1009 Fall Creek Road Ringgold. Wrenn-Yeatts, North Main Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
