Lib Lassiter

Martha Elizabeth “Lib” Allen Lassiter, 92, of 4115 Blanch Road, Blanch, NC went home to be with the Lord on March 20, 2017 in Duke Medical Center after being in declining health for the past several months. Mrs. Lassiter was born in the Blanch community of Caswell County on November 9, 1924 a daughter of the late Berkley Felix Allen and Ismer VanHook Allen. She had lived all of her life in the Blanch community. She was a graduate of Bartlett Yancey High School, class of 1941, where she was Valedictorian of her class and she graduated from the Averett College Business program. Mrs. Lassiter had retired from the Caswell County Agricultural Extension Service where she worked as a secretary. She also worked as secretary at Bartlett Yancey High School for a number of years. Mrs. Lassiter was an active member of Blanch Baptist Church where she served as treasurer for many years, choir member and was president of the W.M.U. Elizabeth kept young with her many interests. She was an excellent cook and seamstress, being a member of Blanch Homemakers Club. She spent many years as a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary 7316. She held many offices on the local and district levels. She also devoted her time as a volunteer for the American Heart Association. She loved her Church, her community, and her family and neighbors. She will be greatly missed. On March 20, 1948 she married Patrick Dowd Lassiter who predeceased her. Mrs. Lassiter is survived by two daughters, Susan Lassiter of Blanch, NC & Shirley L. Winstead of Yanceyville, NC and one son, Stewart “Al” Lassiter (Yvonne) of Virginia Beach, VA, two grandsons, Patrick and Shawn (Ginny) & one great granddaughter Lia Elizabeth Lassiter and one nephew, Mike Allen (Tina). She was predeceased by her husband, one brother, Felix W. Allen and one nephew Phil Allen. Funeral Services for Mrs. Lassiter will be conducted on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Blanch Baptist Church, 5931 Blanch Road, Blanch, N.C. 27212 by the Reverend Keith Murray. Interment will in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Yanceyville Chapel and other times at the residence, 4115 Blanch Road, Blanch, NC 27212. The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to Blanch Baptist Church, P.O.
