Madalu Simmons Wright

Madalu Simmons Wright, 89, of Leasburg, NC, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Roxboro Health and Rehabilitation Center after being in declining health for several months. Madalu was born in Alamance County, NC on April 27, 1933 a daughter of the late John Will Simmons and Lula Lunsford Simmons. She spent all of her life in the Caswell County Community where she was a graduate of Bartlett Yancey High School Class of 1951 and attended Elon College. She then went on to work as an administrator in the Pediatric Department at Duke Medical Center for over 20 years. Madalu was an active member of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church. She served as an Elder, she was a former Sunday School teacher and choir member. She was also a member of the Caswell County Senior Clef Singers. She was a kind and generous person who cared greatly for the needs of others and would often times help deliver for Meals on Wheels. On April 6, 1958, she married Joe Griffin Wright, Sr. who died on September 27, 1972. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Sherri Wright. Survivors include, her daughter, LuAnn W. Martin (Donald) of Roxboro, NC; her sons, Joe Wright, Jr. (Pennie) of Roxboro, NC and Wallace Wright of Semora, NC; her grandchildren, Carla Winstead (Josh), Joe “Trey” Wright, III, and Connor Martin; her great grandchildren, Claire Winstead, Caitlin Winstead, and Callie Winstead; her sister-in-law, Judy Wright-Calloway; and her special cousins, Elaine Briggs and Lou Slade. Funeral services for Madalu will be conducted on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. at the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church with Pastor Steve Jordan officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the church fellowship hall from 1:30 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church at 85 Pleasant Grove Church Road, Yanceyville, NC 27379. The family would like to express their gratitude to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol for all of their support throughout the years.
