Matthew Aaron

Mr. Matthew L. Aaron, Jr., age 90 of 2325 Maple Road, Callands, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2010 at Danville Regional Medical Center where he had been a patient for two days and after a decline in health for six years. Mr. Aaron was born on January 10, 1920 in Pittsylvania County. He was a retired Tobacco and Cattle Farmer. He served in the US Army Infantry during World War II in Italy, Africa, France and England. He received numerous medals, The Purple Heart Metal, Combat Infantry Badge, WWII Victory Metal and European African Middle East Service Metal. He was a member of the American legion Post #325 and County Line Christian Church. He was married to Virginia Holley Aaron, who predeceased him on April 16, 2010. Mr. Aaron is survived by two sons, James M. Aaron of the residence, Jerry L. Aaron of Callands, a daughter, V. Faye Aaron of the residence five sisters, Martha A. Wright , Virginia A. Eanes, Gloria A. Sizemore all of Martinsville, Leone A. Plyborn of Collinsville, Barbara Kendrick of Virginia Beach, one brother, V. Lindy Aaron of Chatham. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Jennifer D. Aaron, David L. Aaron and wife, Dena all of Danville, Mark C. Aaron of Halifax. Also surviving are his special friends, Terry and Jessie Andrews of Halifax. He was predeceased by two sons, Ellis W. Aaron and a infant son. He was also predeceased by two brothers and a sister, William B. Aaron, Kenneth W. Aaron and Louise A. Gregory. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm., Wednesday, June 16, 2010 from the Aaron Family Cemetery by Rev. Dean Ashby and Rev. Curtis English with Military Rites to be conducted by Dan River Post 1097, American Legion Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Wednesday, June 16, 2010 and at other times the family will be at the residence, 2325 Maple Road, Callands. The family request that memorials may be sent to the Callands Fire and Rescue, 11741 Martinsville Highway, Callands, Va. 24530.
