Otis Gibson

On this day of July 10, 2010, Otis Miles Gibson, Sr., 76, the greatest man that ever lived, left our life to be with his loving wife Ruth and our Lord. We can only say that we are blessed to have him as our father and most of all a friend. Otis was born on November 11, 1933 and was a native of Ringgold, VA, he was a son of the late Coley Green Gibson and the late Lena Mae McDowell Gibson. He was second to the last child of 13 children.He is survived by his 92 year old brother William J. Gibson, Sr. Otis is also survived by his loving children; daughter, Marie Trenary and her husband Martin Trenary of NewKirk OK; daughter, Sharon Kowitz and her husband Alfred Kowitz of Cary, NC; son, Otis Miles Gibson, Jr. and his wife Pattie Gibson of Mebane, NC; daughter, Janice Rinker and her husband Guy F. Rinker of Ringgold, VA. Otis was such a lucky man to have several grandchildren, Chad Trenary, Justin Trenary, Tara Trenary, Jennifer McCullen, Austin Kowitz, Miles Gibson, Bailey Rinker and Nolan Rinker. Otis also has 6 great grandchildren, Schuyler, Hunter, Chelsey, Tristan, Dex and Breiden Trenary. Otis worked in construction for 60 years, he worked for English Construction, Luck Construction, D.R. Allen and Son and last but not least, Head Inc. Excavating and Concrete. Working was dads passion and when he retired in January of 2009 he missed working, so he went back to work as a fill in and bid contractor for Head. When he was not working with Head he enjoyed his farm, cows, and most of all mowing hay. When hay season was over it was pure fishing time and Westpoint could not keep him away. For those that knew Otis he was a compassionate man with a heart as big as the world. He believed in treating everyone fairly in life, with the hope of receiving respect in return. I know my father as a man that would give his shirt off his back to anyone that was in need and I saw this happen many times during his lifetime. OtisÂ?s disposition at the end of his life touched so many people at Wake Forest Baptist in Winston Salem in so many different ways. Most of the comments were, Â?What a gentlemanÂ? and how honored the doctors and nurses were to have been there for him. In honor of Otis, in lieu of flowers, please send all donations to either the Ringgold Fire & Rescue P.O. Box 10 Ringgold, VA 24586 or the Breast Cancer Society in care of Karen Johnston and in memory of Landi Elliott Bradner. The family will receive guest on Monday, July 12, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Wrenn Yeatts Westover Chapel on Riverside Drive. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel. The family will have a private graveside service held at the home of Otis M. Gibson, Sr. There will be a luncheon held in honor of Otis following the service in the chapel on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Williamson Memorial Presbyterian Church 483 Mountain Hill Road, Ringgold VA 24586.
