Rebecca Moore DeHart

In the early morning hours of Thursday, April 6, 2023, after a long hard fight with AML/Cancer, Rebecca (Becky) “Moppy” DeHart passed peacefully in her home. Becky was born on October 5th 1948 to the late Andrew Franklin Moore and the late Violet Canipe Moore, in Newton, NC. She was a sweet and loving child that played with dolls and took care of her brothers. She graduated from Maiden High School in 1966. She met the love of her life in 1963 and they were married on June 6th, 1967. They moved to Danville in 1970. She attended Averett College after her children were born, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education to become an elementary school teacher. Becky was a caring and exemplary teacher. Her natural kindness, fun spirit, and empathy for others allowed her to truly bond and grow relationships with her students and colleagues. She spent 30 years teaching elementary students in Danville and an additional 2 years teaching in Eden, NC. Becky leaves behind her loving husband, James “Poppy” DeHart, of 55 years, her son Jason DeHart (Jennifer), of Danville, her daughter, Autumn Patty (Brian) of Danville, her grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Kerstie Ortolano-Collins (CJ) of Williamsburg, VA, Maddux and Glavine DeHart, of Danville, Charleson, Paxton, Ronan and Lincoln of Williamsburg, VA. In addition, she leaves behind her brothers Gerald Moore (Martha), of St. Johns Island, SC, Kenny Moore (Millie) of Maiden, NC, as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Becky’s grandchildren began calling her “Moppy” but soon she became Moppy to everyone. She radiated love, light, and happiness. She was truly the kindest woman one could ever meet and she knew no strangers. Moppy had an infectious personality, the patience of a saint, and always put others first. Her big hugs, beautiful laugh, sass, and energy always put a smile on others faces. Moppy loved music and dancing, cooking, and hosting others. She was always surrounded by friends and family. She had such a love for all things Disney and Disney World, traveling there many times with her granddaughter. The love she had for her family is immense and immeasurable. She provided a loving, positive, safe home with more support and love than you could ever imagine. Moppy touched countless lives as an educator, friend, grandmother, mother, and wonderful human being. She was a doting, attentive and loyal wife throughout their decades of marriage. She leaves behind countless wonderful memories for her family and friends to remember her by and take comfort in the joy that she gave them. The legacy she leaves behind is admirable to say the least. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Vandola Baptist Church with the Pastor David Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday from 11:15 AM-12:45 pm at the church and other times at the DeHart Family Home. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is serving the DeHart family.
