Robert "Dude" Crumpton

Robert Gene (Dude) Crumpton, 81, of 71 Annie Compton Road, Providence, NC, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, July 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at his residence. Dude was born in Danville, VA on September 7, 1944, a son to the late Lexie Jack Crumpton and Elizabeth Brightwell Crumpton. He was a graduate of George Washington High School, Class of 1962. Dude had lived his entire life in the Providence Community. He had worked for C&P Telephone Company (now Verizon) prior to his retirement as a supervisor. He also was a tobacco farmer and raised cattle and hay until his health began to fail. Dude was a lifetime member of Shady Oak Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, Adult Sunday School Teacher and Choir member. Dude was very faithful to the Church in every way that he could possibly be. He also was a member of the Gideons, and the Pioneer Retirees Club of C & P Telephone. On October 13, 1962, Dude married the love of his life, Diane Wilkerson Crumpton who survives of the residence. He is also survived by two sons, Robert Wayne Crumpton (Cyndie) of New Bern, NC, Jammie Crumpton (Lindsay) of Ringgold, VA; two daughters, Pam Crumpton Strader (Kevin) of Providence, NC, Robin Crumpton Hodges (Mark) of Appomattox, VA; one brother, Ernest Crumpton of Providence, NC, two sisters, Sandra Terry of Mechanicsville, VA, Judy Hutchinson of Danville, VA. & 12 Grandchildren & one Great Grandchild. A Celebration of Life Service for Dude will be conducted from the Graveside in the Shady Oak Baptist Church Cemetery on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. by the Reverend Kenneth Hammock and Rev. John Crews. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in church fellowship hall. The family would like to give a special “Thank You” to the Nurses of Commonwealth Hospice for the Loving Care and Kindness that was given to Dude. “We will always be thankful and glad God chose you to be our dad. Day after day, year after year you worked, tirelessly, from sunup to sundown to make sure we never lacked for anything. You taught us the importance of hard work for earning what you want. To this day, you were still the hardest worker we have ever known. So faithful and true, nothing can compare to your love for us. But even more than your love for us was your love for your Lord and Savior. You are gone to your heavenly home now, and our hearts are broken and we will miss you dearly. But we know you are with Jesus where you have always wanted to be. And we know Jesus met you saying welcome home, my son, thou good and faithful servant. So many memories made that we will remember and cherish daily. Time will come and go, but you will remain in our hearts always. We are and have always been proud of you. You took such good care of us, taught us how to work hard for what we wanted, and how to love Jesus. We love and miss you forever – our dad! Until we meet again in Heaven.
