Robert Lee Jennings

Robert Lee Jennings, age 68, of 1345 Westover Drive, Danville, Virginia passed away on July 7th while vacationing at Pawley’s Island, SC. Robert had been a Certified Public Accountant practicing in Danville since 1987. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and later with a Master of Business Administration degree in 1983, then he served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970. In addition to those two degrees, he graduated Summa Cum Laude holding Associate Degrees from the Danville Community College in Business Administration and in Banking & Financial Management; further, he held an Associate Degree in Accounting from the Northern Virginia Community College, graduating Summa Cum Laude. During the 1980s, Robert had been an adjunct instructor at Danville Community College. Earlier in his professional life, Robert had served as a Revenue Officer with the Internal Revenue Service at two different posts of duty in Maryland; in that position he had developed a system for work flow management which became a model for others. He was also employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture prior to his time with the IRS. Robert was a very competitive individual who enjoyed tennis, working puzzles of all types and had been a member of the Mensa Society in the 1980s. He was an avid student of philosophy and of the written word. A good deal of his time, outside of the tax season, was spent working on his own philosophy of life which he hoped to someday publish. He was known by all as a man of great integrity who was very kind, generous and giving. Robert very much enjoyed the earth's natural beauty. Robert is survived by his mother, Nancy B. Jennings; his sister, Barbara Dean Swanson, and husband, Sam, of Ringgold; two brothers, James L. Jennings, and wife, Ann; Stuart W. Jennings, and wife, Dolly, all of Danville. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. His father, J. Lowell Jennings died on October 6, 1991. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 11:00 AM from Fairview United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Kathleen Monge. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7:00-8:30 PM at the Church and at other times at the residence of his mother, 2868 Westover Drive. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is serving the Jennings family.
