Robert Minter Woodall Sr.

Robert Minter Woodall, Sr., 89, of 149 Executive Court, Danville, VA died surrounded by his loving daughters on November 7, 2015 in Carilion Hospital in Roanoke, VA after being in declining health for one year. Mr. Woodall was born in the Swansonville Community of Pittsylvania County on November 5, 1926 the son of the late Taylor Patrick Woodall and Dochie Minter Woodall. He had lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County & Danville, VA. Mr. Woodall had worked in Insurance for over thirty years having owned Robert Woodall Insurance Agency until his retirement. He served with the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. Mr. Woodall was a member of Brosville United Methodist Church and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 647. He was very instrumental in the residential growth of Smith Mountain Lake. He was a NASCAR fan who had a love for cars. He enjoyed reading, boating, traveling, and most of all, spending time with his family and extended family of the Brookdale Community. On July 20, 1947 he married the late Dorothy Hylton Woodall who died on February 14, 2011. Mr. Woodall is survived by three daughters, Sharron Woodall Burke (Eddie), Karen Woodall Ward (Tony) both of Danville, VA, Sandra Woodall Hamilton of Greensboro, NC, one sister Mary Lee McGrath of Winston-Salem, NC, six grandchildren, Robbie Woodall (Christy), Patrick Woodall (Jen), Michael Woodall (Kelli), Tamara Kotronis (Stavros), Ashley Forbis (Donny), Ryan Burke, eight great grandchildren Conner Woodall, Mallory Woodall, Jasper Woodall, Theodore Woodall, Wade Woodall, Zoe Kotronis, Sophia Kotronis, Burkley Forbis & Fiona Forbis. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by one son, Robert M. Woodall, Jr., and one grandson, Eben Ward. Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Reverend Linwood Cook. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. The family request in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, 24543 or to Brosville United Methodist Church, 12648 Martinsville Hwy., Danville, VA 24541.
