Ruby Finch

Ruby Townsend Finch, 88, formally of 903 Main St, died on Friday, October 21, 2011 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after being in declining health for the past five years. Mrs. Finch was born in Danville, VA on July 5, 1923 a daughter of the late Gus Corbin Townsend and the late Sallie Scearce Townsend. She spent all of her life in the Danville area where she was the executive secretary at First Presbyterian Church for over 40 years until her retirement. She was a graduate of George Washington High School and a member of First Presbyterian Church. She loved to sit on her front porch and take care of her flowers, she also loved to travel. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. Mrs. Finch was first married to William O. Gibson who predeceased her on October 22, 1973 and the she married Thomas C. Finch on May 18, 1996, who survives of Norfolk, VA. In addition to her second husband Mrs. Finch is survived by one daughter, Debbie G. McNeely and her husband Scott, of Danville, VA; a step son, Tommy Finch, of Norfolk, VA; three step grandchildren, Jenny McNeely of Crawfordville, FL, Becky McNeely of Virginia Beach, VA and Stephanie Finch of Norfolk, VA; a host of nieces and nephews and many close special friends. She was predeceased by two brothers, Marvin Townsend and Ronnie Townsend; two sisters, Evelyn Walls and Frances Payne; and a step daughter Micki G. Angel. A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Burial Park with the Reverend Allen Thompson and Dr. Joey Faucette officiating. Interment will follow the service in the cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday night October 23, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times the family will be at the residence of her daughter at 217 Swain Dr. Danville, VA 24540. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Danville Fire Fighters Burn Fund at PO Box 11361 Danville, VA 24543, the Alzheimer?s Association at 302 Craighead St, Suite 104, Danville, VA 24541, or to the Danville Cancer Association at 2323 Riverside Dr, Suite J Danville VA 24540.
