Ruby Ramsey Hodges Grubb

Ruby Ramsey Hodges Grubb, 87, of 364 Laurel Woods Drive, Danville, VA died Friday, February 26, 2016 at the Danville Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Grubb was born in Union Hall, VA on July 22, 1928, a daughter of the late Guy Bennett Ramsey and Thelma Elizabeth Brown Ramsey. She lived most of her life in Danville and retired from the Danville Public School system as Principal at Westmoreland, Woodrow Wilson Middle School and Gibson Middle School. She also taught at Woodberry Elementary School, and was assistant principal atTaylor Middle School. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. She was a member and past president of Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Women’s Educators and Excellence in Education. Docent and volunteer for the Danville Science Center and the Danville Fine Arts Museum. She served on the Board for Danville Arts and Humanities, the Community Services Board and the Danville Little Theater. She was instrumental in the start of the E.S.L. in the Dan River Region, and for the Danville Crisis Line, for whom she also volunteered. Mrs. Grubb was married to John Booker Grubb, who died on May 11, 2004. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Marcia Dawn Ramsey. Survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth Louise Hodges, and her husband Daniel Kumin, of Concord, NH; Sue Hodges Biersbach, of Montville, NJ; and Ruby Hodges Marshall, and her husband Wesley, of Danville, VA; two sisters, Mabrey Ramsey Hunt, and her husband George, of Roanoke, VA; and Mary Lee Ramsey Riddle, and her husband Dallas, of Gretna, VA; six grandchildren, Juliana Biersbach Finegan, and her husband Brian, Thomas Joseph Biersbach, Blair Susanne Biersbach, Noah Hodges Kumin, Wesley Travis Marshall, Jr., and Erin Elizabeth Marshall; a great granddaughter, Virginia Louise Finegan; and two special friends, Maria Stewart and Barbara Burkett. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church with the Reverend John Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M. and at other times at the residence.
