Ruby Sloan

Ruby Sloan went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 15, 2015, after a hard fought battle against declining health for several years. Mrs. Sloan will be remembered for her unconditional love as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all as well as for her faith, compassionate spirit and the joy she brought to others by her random acts of kindness. Known for her dedication to her faith she was a long time member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. Mrs. Sloan was born on September 18, 1927 in Jackson County, NC, the daughter of Frank and Laura Hyatt. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Berkley "Buck" Sloan and was the beloved mother of three children: Millard Sloan and wife, Cheryl of Providence, NC; Brenda Jean Sloan and fiancé Dan Smith of Raleigh, NC and Douglas Wayne Sloan of Ontario, Canada. She had three grandchildren: Brandon Sloan and wife, Andrea of Wendell, NC; Ryan Sloan of Raleigh, NC and Laura Sloan Stigall and husband, Matt of Lexington, KY. She also had two great-granddaughters, Kelsey and Kiley Sloan. Mrs. Sloan is survived by three sisters: Evelyn Brendle and husband, Ernest of Franklin, NC; Maxine Saunders and husband, Leonard of Franklin, NC and Villie Johnson of Pumpkin Town, NC and one brother, Eddie Hyatt and wife, Peggy of Marysville, WA. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by seven siblings: Verco Hyatt, Lucy Rogers, Perry Hyatt, Marie Mashburn, Myrtle Crawford, Leon Hyatt, and Leo Hyatt. The family thanks her caregivers, Eunice Tanner, Taylor Talley, Christine Mullin, and Rose Fuller for all their love, care, and support. A special thanks also to home health nurse Robin Lewis. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Sandy Creek Baptist Church with the Reverends Jimmy Bibee and Bill Sigmon officiating. Interment will follow in the Sandy Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 17 at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel, and at other times will be at the residence at 2736 Ringgold Depot Road, Sutherlin, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Ringgold Fire Department or Sandy Creek Baptist Church. Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is respectfully serving the Sloan family.
