Ruth Maxie

Ruth Elizabeth Taylor Maxie, 88, of 2600 Mount Cross Road, died Friday, October 23, 2009 at Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health for the past ten months and in the hospital two weeks. Mrs. Maxie was born in Danville, VA on April 3, 1921, a daughter of the late Charles Spurgeon Taylor and Ollie Virginia Hubbard Taylor. She had lived her life in Danville, VA and had retired from Dan River Mills, Inc. as a Clerk. She was a member of Shermont Baptist Church and she loved cooking and caring for her children and her grandchildren. On November 26, 1942 she married Joseph Raymond Maxie, Jr., he died on August 28, 1996. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Horace Taylor, and an infant sister, Charlotte Ann Taylor. She is survived by three sons, Joseph Wayne Maxie, and wife Faye, of Simpsonville, SC, Douglas Charles Maxie, and wife Brenda, of Trinity, NC, and Joseph Raymond Maxie, III, of Chattanooga, TN; two daughters, Linda Maxie Webster, and husband Buddy, of Crewe, VA andCathy Maxie Pruitt, and husband Joey, of Ruffin, NC; three sisters, Dorothy Godfrey and Jean Barker, both of Danville, and Hazel Lester, of Spencer, NC; Two brothers, Charles Taylor, of St. Simon Island, GA, and Curtis Taylor, of Warwick, RI; nine grandchildren, Monica Maxie, Eddie Webster, Allison, Maxie, Jason Pruitt, Jonathan Pruitt, Brittany Maxie, Taylor Maxie, Eddie Simmons and Michael Simmons; two great-grandchildren, Allie Frasier and Nicholas Simmons; and a special niece and nephews, Maria Pena, Carlton Mitchell and Stan Mitchell. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. from Shermont Baptist Church with the Reverend Ryan Riley and the Reverend Bill Soyars officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening at the Wrenn-Yeatts, Westover Chapel from 7:00 Â? 8:30 P.M. and at other times at the residence. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Danville Cancer Association, 2323 Riverside Dr., Suite J, Danville, VA 24540. Wrenn-Yeatts, Westover Chapel is serving the Maxie family.
