Sandra DeLong Conrad

Sandra DeLong Conrad, 4157 Whitmell School RD, died in her sleep at home on July 12, 2013. She suffered from several conditions and from the loss of her oldest daughter, Jesse Adele Hooker and her only son, Brandon Maurice Conrad. Sandy was born in Rhine Main Germany on September 27, 1960, while her father was stationed there during his Air Force career. They lived in Colorado, Hampton, VA & Richlands, VA, where they enjoyed fishing and camping and mountain music that Sandy was gifted in. Sandy learned to play guitar and mandolin from her Uncle’s Maurice and Wallace DeLong and at the age of ten, she played along with Appalachian greats in music. One of her acquaintances in music was Doc Watson, who called her Little Sandy. Sandy’s summers were spent in Danville at the home of her Aunt Lorine where her cousins Danna, Doug, John and Robert considered her their sister and where she enjoyed sports and friends and trips to the beaches and mountains. Sandy graduated from Richlands High School and Thomas Nelson University. She worked as administrative asst. and office manager in medical offices. Her life will be remembered as one that always concerned matters of the heart. Her kindness, unselfishness and giving spirit, her sense of humor and her unforgettable laugh are her legacy and will echo on the hearts of her cousins and their children and her many friends whenever she has lived. She was saved and baptized at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Keeling, VA. God was her source, and Jesus and her children were the focus and center of her life. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Corina Conrad, Corina’s fiancé, Kenny Revis and her adored grandson, Gage Nathanial Revis; her former husband, Berton Conrad of Hampton, VA; her parents, Cecil R. and Vallee M. DeLong of Poquoson and Ringgold, VA; her brothers, John W. Delong II and his wife Angela of Hampton, VA, J.K. DeLong of Rockwell, NC, Herbert and Michael Mapes of Newport News, VA and Tony Mapes of San Francisco, CA; sister, Susan Maestas of NC. Also, her aunt Lorine Monk of Danville, Doug Monk of Chatham and Robert Monk of Blairs and Laura Smith of Pelham, NC, William Davis of Stony Mill and their children. Sandy was preceded in death by her brother, Danny DeLong and her cousins Daniel and John Monk, Dana M. Davis locally; and several others throughout the south. A celebration of life service will be conducted on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.
