Stuart Childress Walton

Stuart Childress Walton, 102, of Danville, Virginia, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025. Stuart was born July 4, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late James E. Childress and Delphia Wall Childress. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Rodger L. Walton, Sr. She was also predeceased by her son, Rodger L. Walton, Jr., a daughter-in-law, Louise Loftis Walton, a granddaughter, Tina Walton Evans, a grandson-in-law, Nelson Evans, two sisters, Nancy Childress Lipford, Edna Childress Johnson, and an infant brother, James Edward Childress, Jr. Stuart had lived her entire life in Danville, Virginia, where she worked as a bookkeeper in the family-owned business, Walton Hauling Company. She was a member of the Gideon’s Auxiliary, Radio Bible Class Ministries, and a Sunday School teacher for 30 years. She was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church and the Ruth Martin Bible Class. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Walton Whitlow (Darby); grandchildren, Richard L. Walton (Sandra), Shay Whitlow (Gary Tomlinson); great grandchildren, Kristy Jones, Justin Evans (Tiffany), Craig Evans (Jessica), Brittany Walton, Moses Tomlinson; and seven great grandchildren. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to her family, neighbors, friends, and especially the members of Mount Hermon Baptist Church, who continued to always remember her with prayers, visits and cards. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with Pastor Steve Chromy officiating. A private interment will be held at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home on Tuesday. The family respectfully request that no food donations be made, rather give to those in need. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations can be made to Mount Hermon Baptist Church at 4385 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, VA 24540, or to a charity of your choice.
