Thelma Dodson

Thelma Jane Owen Dodson, 86, of 169 Forestlawn Drive, Danville, VA, died Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Danville Regional Medical Center following a short decline in health. She was born in Danville, VA on April 24, 1925 to the late Thelbert F. Owen and the late Hattie Chattin Owen. On January 10, 1948 she married Robert Joseph Dodson, Jr., who survives. She was an active member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church where she served on numerous committees. She enjoyed the Danville Bridge Club, walking, and spending time with her grandchildren who referred to her lovingly as ?Grammy Cat?. Mrs. Dodson was an upbeat person who enjoyed helping and cooking for others. Her energy and enthusiasm for life was felt by all who knew her. She retired from the American National Bank, after 35 years, as an Assistant Vice-President of Customer Service. In addition to her husband, of the residence, she is survived by a son, Robert J. Dodson, III and wife, Courtney, of Danville, VA; two grandchildren, Charles Henry Dodson and Samantha Cole Dodson; a sister, Ruth O. Gerringer, of Danville, VA; and a brother, Norman P. Owen, of Pinellas Park, Florida. Other surviving relatives include brother- and sister-in-law, C.W. Dodson and wife Gloria; nieces Glenda Jordan, Diane Collie, Renee Owen, Cynthia Shellabarger and Susan Dodson; and nephews Stephen Gerringer, Niles Owen and Charles Dodson. Mrs. Dodson is also survived by very special friend, Mildred Wilkerson, of Ringgold, VA, among many others. Mrs. Dodson was predeceased by three sisters, Lillian Estelle Duncan, Hazel O. Shumate, and Margaret O. Bass; and two brothers, Ralph F. Owen and Landon B. Owen. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at 11:00a.m.at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church with the Reverend Steve Carlton and the Reverend Larry Glover-Wetherington officiating. A private interment will follow at the Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends Monday, December 12, 2011 at the Wrenn-Yeatts, North Main Chapel from 7:00-8:30p.m. The family suggests memorials may be made to Moffett Memorial Baptist Church, 1026 North Main Street, Danville, VA, 24540, or to a charity of choice. Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is serving the Dodson family.
