Wanda Barber

Wanda Dillard Barber, 60, of 2698 South Boston Hwy, Ringgold, VA died Thursday, November 1, 2012 at her residence with her family by her side, after an eighteen month battle with cancer. Wanda was born on September 23, 1952 in Danville, VA to the late Henry A. Dillard and the late Lucille Williams Dillard. On August 5, 1969 she married to John K. Barber who predeceased her on January 20, 2012. She is survived by two daughters, Wendy B. Riddick of the residence and Dawn B. Anderson of Danville; one son, Paul Barber and wife, Lisa of Ringgold; three grandchildren, John Mims of Blacksburg, Paige Anderson of Danville and Logan Barber of Ringgold; one great grandson, Aiden Conner of Ringgold; and one step grandson, Landon Vernon of Ringgold. She is also survived by two sisters, Virginia D. Stitt and husband Ralph of Danville and Janice D. Wells of Ringgold; and one brother, John Timothy Dillard of Ringgold. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by two sisters, Patricia Dillard and Cynthia Dillard; and one brother, Henry Wayne Dillard. Wanda was employed by Piggly Wiggly on South Boston Hwy for 23 years. Her husband was the true love of her life, and she also had unending love for children, especially for her children and grandchildren. Wanda was happiest surrounded by those she loved and those who loved her. She was also very fond of pets, especially her dog Paddy-Mae. Wanda loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping and fishing with her husband. Her hobbies included feeding hummingbirds, tending to flowers and cooking her family?s favorite lemon meringue pie. She was also an avid watcher of ?The Young and the Restless?. Special thanks to Legacy Hospice, especially Lisa Marie and Emma for their loving care and compassion. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. from the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with Dr. Paul Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Flora Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:30-3:00 at the funeral home and other times at the residence, 2698 South Boston Highway. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Danville Cancer Association or the Danville Area Humane Society. ?Wanda waged a strong battle to fight her illness but made a peaceful exit from this life?.
