William Thomas Moss

William Thomas “Bill” Moss, 91, of Danville, VA, died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Danville Regional Medical Center after being in declining health for the past two years. Mr. Moss was born in Vance County, NC on July 5, 1922 the son of the late Leonard Allen Moss and Mary Stainback Moss. He had lived most of his life in the Chesapeake, VA area prior to moving to Danville in 2003. Mr. Moss served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Coxswain. After WWII he worked as a Shop Foreman at a Naval Air Rework Facility at Norfolk, VA until his retirement. As Shop Foreman he was responsible for production of work and personnel assigned to the shop. Evaluated work schedules, determining necessary procedures for meeting the schedules. Assigned personnel to jobs, and saw that they had all the necessary tools and equipment to perform their work. He was responsible for monitoring the performance of the mechanic’s work to see if they were doing it in a safe and efficient manner, that technical specifications and directives were complied with, and that quality of work was acceptable to keep the pilot and aircraft safe. While in the Navy he received many awards for never missing any work time while at the Naval Air Rework Facility. He had received medals for the American, Victory World War II, Asiatic-Pacific & 3 stars and the Philippine Liberation & 2 stars. Mr. Moss was of the Methodist Faith. In July of 1959, he married, Kathryn McDowell Moss, who survives of the residence. In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Francis Modderno of Leesburg, VA., two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by four brothers and four sisters. Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 6:00 PM from the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel. Presentation of the United States Flag will be conducted by the U.S. Military. The family will be receiving friends after the service and at other times they will be at the residence, 1323 B College Park Drive, Danville, VA. Wrenn-Yeatts North Main, 703 North Main, Street, Danville, VA 24540 is respectfully serving the Moss family.
