Charlotte Louise Lowther

Charlotte Louise Lowther died peacefully surrounded by family on Aug. 31st. She was 98. Preceding her in death are her husband Homer (Bus) Lowther and a son Robert Lowther. She is survived by four children Mary (Paul) Patrick, David (Sally) Lowther, James (Lynn) Lowther, and Sharon Lowther; seven grandchildren Ben Lowther, Ted Patrick, Stephanie (Kevin Brauning) Patrick, Jennifer (Matt) Embry, Brian (Debbie) Lowther, Kristin (Joey) Connelly, Mike (Kirksey) Lowther, and fourteen great- grandchildren. Charlotte was born to Mary and William Huff on April 19, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri, the oldest of four children. Most of her childhood was spent in Springfield, Missouri. She graduated from Drury University in 1947 and took a job at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Topeka, Kansas, as Director of Religious Education. While she resigned her job to start of family the inside joke was that she continued her work as Director of Religious Ed., but was just no longer paid for it. Bus and Charlotte and their five children stayed in Topeka until promotions with Goodyear took them first to Ohio and eventually to Danville, where Charlotte resided from 1977 until her death. Charlotte’s priorities could be described as God first, family second, and service third. She was involved in many community activities in Danville, including First Presbyterian Church, P.E.O., Wednesday Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Danville Genealogical Society. In her volunteer capacities she served as officers in all of these organizations, directed the church midweek evening program, served as an elder of the church, taught a church circle into her 90’s, and wrote numerous programs for meetings and for publishing. She also loved travel. She enjoyed three trips to Europe, but her favorite place to go was always Colorado. The family would like to thank Charlotte’s caregiver Emily for her unfailing love and expertise. They would also like to thank Commonwealth Hospice for all the care and support they provided Charlotte and her family. Service will include a dual memorial for Charlotte and her son Robert at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Doctor Elizabeth Broschart officiating. Interment for Charlotte will be in Highland Cemetery, Winfield, Kansas, at a later date. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, at the church, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Memorials in honor of Charlotte may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Dorothea Henry Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, P.E.O. Chapter B.O. (designate for Cottey College). Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is serving the Lowther family.
