Sallie Calloway

Sallie Belle Calloway, 74, of 135 Brush Arbor Court, Danville, VA died on August 2, 2010 at her residence after being in declining health for the past one year. Mrs. Calloway was born in the Climax Community of Pittsylvania County on December 8, 1935 a daughter to the late Moses Sampson Towler and Mary Matherly Towler. She had lived all of her life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. Mrs. Calloway attended the former Climax High School and graduated from Dan River Adult School. She had worked for the former Belk Leggett Company in supervision for 16 years prior to working with the Family Dollar Stores for 18 years in management until her retirement in 1997. After her retirement she was a volunteer for Roman Eagle Memorial Home for several years. Mrs. Calloway was a member of Westover Hills Pentecostal Holiness Church. On February 21, 1953 she married Atron Thomas Calloway who survives of the residence. Mrs. Calloway is also survived by one daughter Brenda C. Walker and husband L.C. of Danville, VA, three sons Thomas Wayne Calloway and wife Belinda of Dry Fork, VA, George Calloway of Axton, VA and Michael David Calloway and wife Terri of Dry fork, VA, two brothers Curtis S. Towler of Hurt, VA, Archie L. Towler of Monroe, VA, three sisters Mary Ruby Smith of Gretna, VA, Virginia Gladys Osborne and France Barbara Kendrick both of Climax, VA, seven grandchildren Brian Calloway, Beth Keesee, Tyler Calloway, Tamara Barnes, Travis Calloway, Joshua Calloway, LaiCie Walker, five great grandchildren Camden Calloway, Carly Calloway, Brendan Barnes, Haley Calloway and Hayden Calloway. Mrs. Calloway was predeceased by her parents and two brothers Gordon Wyatt Towler and Billy Wayne Towler. Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Reverend Cecil Coates and Reverend Michael Hearp. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday night from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times they will be at the residence 135 Brush Arbor Court, Danville, VA 24540 off of the Mount Cross Road. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers Memorials be made to Liberty Home Care & Hospice, 500 Piney Forest Road, Danville, VA 24540.
